TE RAKIWHAKAPUTA

Waitangi Day Celebrations & Official Opening of the NZ Women's Open at Clearwater

Waitangi Day Celebrations

On Waitangi Day, the Kaiapoi High School Theatresports and Kapahaka groups combined to produce a fabulous re-enactment of the signing of The Treaty of Waitangi for the “You, We, Us” celebrations held at Trousselot Park. Even the Mayor joined in on the re-enactment! Te Rakiwhakaputa accompanied our local upoko Te Maire Tau and our head students. They then went amongst the crowd selling hangi in their colonial costumes. They were also called upon to close the event with a short performance. Thank you to the students for their dedication and for representing the school positively at such an important occasion.

Official Opening of the NZ Women's Open at Clearwater

Te Rakiwhakaputa was asked to perform the official Pōwhiri for the Honda NZ Women’s Golf Open at Clearwater. The group was accompanied by two Rangiora High School students, Whaea Anne, Tuahine Jenna, Matua Rēmi, Whaea Danna and their tamariki.

After the official opening, the group performed an interactive show that allowed the competitors to participate in performing a poi. The male guests were provided with the opportunity to perform a haka. The students, guests and golfers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Once again, our students represented our kura with pride in the wider community and we congratulate them on this.
