On Wednesday 28th March the HKRFU Super 6 Rugby competition kicked off.

The competition was also significant as it was Samantha Hansen's first coaching experience in competition.

The tournament was held in Wellington on 16th and 17th April.

The event features a 42km marathon, 21km half marathon and 10km and 5km fun runs.

On Friday 13 April the year 9 Food Technology class made lunch for the Foxton emergency services to say thank you for the work that they do in our community.

On Thursday 12th April the Center of Sporting Excellence held a black tie awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements in term one.

On Tuesday 10th April the Senior Leaders and House Leaders were presented with their badges by sports medicine specialist, Dr Ra Durie.

Youth Voice is a group made up of 13-24 year olds that have been selected to represent the youth of Horowhenua, from holding events for young people in the region, to having a say on issues that affect youth in the Horowhenua District.

Congratulations to Shelby who finished 28th out of 172 in Australasia for girls aged 14 to 15.

The guests were welcomed into the College with a powhiri in the morning and then played our Senior A netball team at lunchtime.

The competition was held at the Freyberg pools in Palmerston North on Saturday 7th April.

The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as school leaders.

Both girls competed outstandingly, with over 130 riders split into three heights.

When students perform consistently above the 'Achieved' level, their result(s) can be 'endorsed' to reflect that high achievement. This can occur at either the Certificate or individual course level.

On Monday 19th March the Inter-House Swimming Sports Competition took place in the School pool.

On Sunday 18th March year 10 students Shelby Wells and Miniah Summerell competed in Wellington at 41 Degrees Weightlifting competition

On Sunday 18th March, Manawatu College entered a Junior and a Senior team into the Condor Sevens Qualifying Tournament held in Palmerston North.

On Saturday 17th March, eleven of our students represented the College at the Manawatu Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships at Massey University.

On Wednesday 14th March three teams entered the Howowhenua Kapiti Secondary Schools 7's Competition in Levin.

This year we had an official team of three staff and 14 students who participated in the Manawatu Region's Relay For Life.

Six of our students, Shae Gray, Elian Mohi, Toroa Rapana, Isaac Laracy, Michael Tamarapa and Harry Mehana represented the Horowhenua Kapiti Maori Under 18 team in the Te Tini - a - Maui Maori Rugby Tournament 2018 held in Levin.

The team played in the E Tu Whanau National Touch Championships held in Auckland on March 3rd.

Our annual Inter-House Athletics day took place on Wednesday 28th February on the College field.

There were a huge number of competitors, 36 teams were entered and there were over 120 pony/horses competing with over 30 horses in each class.

On Thursday lunchtimes the Music Department hold Peace and Positivity Performances where the students showcase their musical talents.

On Sunday 18th February Shelby and Miniah travelled down to Wellington with their coach Mr Nation to compete in the Club Competition.

On Wednesday 14th February our Year 12 students attended the award winning one day RYDA road safety education programme held at Donnelly Park in Levin.

Held in Auckland this year, this competition sees the best young Touch players in New Zealand face off in six grades: Under 16 Boys, Girls and Mixed and Under 18 Boys, Girls and Mixed.

Shae represented the New Zealand Maori Rugby League Team in an international tournament in January 2018.

Thankfully the recent heatwave subsided for our annual Tabloid Sports competition!

On Wednesday 31 January we held a full school Powhiri to welcome all staff and students new to the College.

Making the transition into College life can be daunting  and so one of the first events on the calendar is the year 9 Overnight Orientation at the Foxton Beach Bible Camp.

The Leadership Camp was run on Monday to Wednesday of the first week of school. It was moved to the beginning of the year to assist the new leaders in being prepared for the year and more importantly be ready for the Year 9 camp.

On Saturday 27 January the 57th Annual New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix was held at the famous Woodville circuit.

Locky came 12th and Zac 16th overall in this event. 

This programme targets outstanding all round science, maths and technology students in Year 12 who are returning to school in Year 13 and are planning to study the sciences or technology at tertiary level.
