The Trust has been supporting our students for 32 years through a variety of ways and we appreciate all of their hard work.

2017 was another very successful year for our gateway students on work placement. 

On Monday 11th December Manawatu College held their Orientation Day for the year 8 students who will be coming to College next year. 

Year 10 student Rawinia Lloyd was awarded Junior Dux 2017 at this year's Junior Prizegiving.

Following the Senior Prizegiving on Wednesday 29th November, our graduating year 13 students went to their graduation dinner at Breakers in Palmerston North.

 The Pacific Mini Games is a multi-sport event contested by countries and territories located in the pacific region every four years.

On Thursday 30th November the Nga Toi and Whakairo students held an exhibition of their work throughout the year. 

Senior Prizegiving was held in the College Hall on Wednesday 29th November this year.

On Sunday 26th November the Otaki and Porirua Trusts Board held their Recipients of Scholarships Announcement hui at Nga Purapura.

On Saturday 2nd December a crew of staff and students competed in the annual 1/2 Iron Maori Triathlon in Napier.

Summer sport is well underway for 2017.

In this competition students planout and create their own Instant Restaurants based on their chosen theme and serve a two course meal to their selected guests of parents, friends and staff.

On Thursday 23rd November the White Ribbon bikers stopped into Manawatu College during their White Ribbon Ride 2017.

On Thursday 23 November our year 9 and 10 students embarked on their Junior Activities Programme where the focus was on education outside of the classroom.

The tournament was held on 18th November in Marton.

On Saturday 18th November our senior leaders plus German exchange student Lucy Weiss attended the opening of Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom.

On Saturday 11th November our Senior Leaders Callum Thwaites, Maddi Parlato, Leighton Briggs and Paora Tamihana attended the Armistice Day Commemeration at the Cenotaph in Foxton.

The College held the first ever MANA Sports Celebration on Thursday 9th of November to recognise and celebrate our students, coaches and managers who have been involved in sport over the year. 

On Thursday 9th November Amine, an international, Japanese exchange student from Horowhenua College come to visit.

On Tuesday 7th November the students who applied for leadership positions for 2018 spoke to the student body and staff in Assembly.

On Wednesday 8th November the year 13 students celebrate their final week of school with a strawberry and ice cream interval in the Staff room.

Jo-Ann Palmer has organised a fundraiser to help Sam get to the  2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu, to be held this December.

On Saturday 3rd November a group of 10 staff and students competed in the annual Quarter Iron Maori Triathlon in Napier. 

On Friday 27th October Sophie Parrant, the Youth Development Officer for the Horowhenua Council took a number of our year 10 students to the nearly complete Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom.

Manawatu College works closely with UCOL and their sports and exercise programmes in Palmerston North.

On Saturday 7th October Sam competed in the New Zealand Weightlifting Nationals held at the Edgar Center in Dunedin.

On Friday 29th September Australian glass artist Ruth Oliphant came to present a glass workshop to the students.

On Saturday 23rd September Netball Horowhenua held their Senior Prem 1, 2 and 3 and Collegiate Competition Prizegiving at the Levin Cossie Club.  

On Wednesday 20th and Friday 22nd September the Year 10 Financial Studies students ran a Market Day Project as a major part of their term's Financial Studies programme.

On Wednesday 13th September, 24 students set off for the annual Ki-O-Rahi tri-tournament held during te wiki o te reo Maori. This year it was Waiopehu College's turn to host the tournament.

9FH have been learning about politics and the current New Zealand system of government in their Homeroom with Miss Frith over the last 6 weeks.

On 5th September Sam arrived in Minnesota, USA to compete in the Individual Teen division at the Granite Crossfit Games.

The annual tournament was held in New Plymouth this year.

Six year 11 students competed in the challenge held in the Gym on Thursday, 31st August.

On Tuesday 29th August, Warrant Officer Wayne Dyke made a special visit to Training Ship Tutira in Levin to present Quinten with this coin.

On Tuesday, August 29th the level two and three Science classes set off on their overnight trip to Wellington.

The building is well underway with the grand opening just months away on the 18th November.

On Saturday 20th August year 13 student Samantha Hansen competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Weightlifting Competition in Wellington.

The Winter Sports competition consists of each house playing off in games of basketball, netball, soccer and hockey. 

On Thursday 17th August our visitors arrived from our sister city of Narita, Japan for the annual Narita Exchange.

On Saturday 12th August, Kyle was recognised for his efforts at the Duke Of Edinburgh International Aotearoa New Zealand Hillary Gold Presentation Awards 2017.

The annual visit from our sister city of Narita, Japan is rapidly approaching and preparations are well under way. 

It's fast-paced, it's hectic and it makes maths fun. Mathex involves some speedy number crunching as teams race to submit their answers.

Open Evening was held on 10th August this year and was a great showcase of what our College has to offer.

The annual event was held at Te Takere in Levin on Saturday 5th August.

Beating out 20 other designs, Natalie's was chosen to be the design for the lighting pou at the Te Awahou Niewe Stroom building on Main street.

On Friday the 28th July the student body were entertained by some of Horowhenua's most talented performers.

Year 13 student Samantha Hansen and partner Hayden Pritchard, team Ball N Socket, competed in the mixed pairs competition at CrossFit Central in Wellington on Saturday 22 July.

On Monday 9 July the Duke of Edinburgh students got out and about in the community.

On Monday 10 July the Te Awahou Niewe Stroom project was gifted over $1 million from the Regional Culture and Heritage Fund.

Friday 7th July, the last day of term two was Mr McDonald's last day.

On Wednesday 5th July, 22 of our year 12 & 13 student leaders participated in a regional senior school 'Dream Team' leadership forum with 330 others to mark the Sir Peter Blake Trust NZ Leadership Week.

The girls were awarded these badges in assembly on Tuesday 4th July.

On Monday 3rd July the combined kapa haka roopu Ngawai O Manawhenua, students from Manawatu College, Waiopehu College and Horowhenua College  competed at the Pae Taiohi Regional Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition.

On Friday 30th June Mr O'Dea and Ivan Ngarotata put down a Hangi at school to raise money for the student and staff  team competing in this years Iron Maori event.

On 27th June a number of our coaches at Manawatu College had the opportunity to take part in a Coaching clinic run by Sport Manawatu.

Te Pa Harakeke o Te Awahou is Foxton's Maori language immersion early childhood center for children under 6.  

EXCEL School of Performing Arts has since 1994 offered a unique, performance-based course earning graduates an NZQA-accredited Certificate of Performance in Dance, Drama or Music (Music students majoring in Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keys or Vocals).

On Wednesday 21st of June, Junior Homeroom 9FH and our Senior Student Leaders set off for the big city for the annual Amazing Race trip.

On Sunday 18th June Sam entered her final competition platform, the 41 Degrees Weightlifting Competition in Wellington.

On the 15th and 25th May students from 27 countries were tested on their Languages skills, including reading, writing, listening, dictation and grammar. 

"What are your thoughts about giving under-18s alcohol?” “Wouldn’t do it ever? Special occasions only? Only if at dinner with family? Might give them a couple of beers or RTDs? My teens are responsible? Better to get controlled amount from parents?”

On Wednesday 7th June the Level One Business Studies class held their Market Day in the Canteen.

Paraparaumu travelled to play our girls at Manawatu College at 4pm on Sunday 5th June.

The much anticipated annual event took place on Wednesday May 31st - Thursday 1st May at home this year.

The MKR challenge was laid down to the Y10 rotations of Food Technology at Manawatu College by teacher Miss Lisa Frith. 

Omatsuri is a Japanese Festival for High School students, held at the International Pacific University campus.

On Friday 26th May  our students dazzled a big crowd in Palmerston North at the Stage Challenge Manawatu final.

On Tuesday 23 May, Martin White from the Kapiti Driving School and Rebecca Hancox, a senior student from Horowhenua College came to speak to the students about driving safely.

 After months of planning and fundraising, on Monday, 22nd May the Level 1,2,3 Tu Rangitira class and Mr Mitchell, Whaea Yvonne and Matua Ivan set off in loaded vans on a haerenga to Kawhia, to trace the footsteps of their ancestors.  

The Weightlifting Club aims to encourage both members and non members of MaD CrossFit to participate in and contribute to Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting in New Zealand.

On Friday 19 May two bands from our College entered the Smokefree Rockquest Heats at the Globe Theatre in Palmerston North.

On a wet Wednesday afternoon, Manawatu College hosted the annual Manawatu Inter-Secondary Schools Cross Country competition on our Cross Country Track.

Between the 15th and 25th May , students from 27 different countries were tested on their Language skills, including reading, writing, listening, dictation and grammar.

The annual Competition took place on Friday 12 May following some dismal weather, meaning that the track lived up to the name 'Cross Country'.  

On Wednesday 10th May our Senior English students had the opportunity to go along and listen to Dr Glenn Colquhoun recite his work at Te Takere.

On Wednesday 10 May the Level 3 Geography class took a trip to Foxton Beach to conduct field research.

On Sunday 7 May Shelby triumphed over a huge number of competitors in the annual Wellington Rosewood Ballet Competition.

During the Holidays, year 9 student Shelby Wells competed in two major Dance competitions, the Napier Performing Arts Competition in Hawke's Bay and a five day competition in Palmerston North.

On Tuesday 11 April the Year 11 Te Wero class with Mr Napier and Mr Taru completed their second of three tramps for their ABL unit.

On Tuesday 11 April, Mrs Belk took nine Advanced English students to the Experience in Palmerston North.

The ‘GRIP Student Leadership Conference’ is a one-day event held in numerous cities across several countries and is enjoyed by tens of thousands of students each year.

On Tuesday 11th April a group of staff and students were taken on a tour of the Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom.

This competition, hosted by Crossfit MANA was a mixed pairs competition to see which side of the Ruahines will claim the fittest pair?

The 'Longest Day' on Saturday 8th April and the following Graduation Dinner at the RSA marked the end of another successful CACTUS course at Manawatu College.

The event was Held at the Freyberg Pools in Palmerson North on Saturday 8 April.

After being selected as a member of the North Island team from his results in the Manawatu Inter-Secondary Schools Championships in March, Shay headed to Taranaki for the National Championship on Saturday 8 April.

On Friday 31st March our year 10 cohort, along with Miss Park, Mr O'Sullivan, Miss Gleeson and Mr Beckman went to see the Science Roadshow, held at Queen Elizabeth College in Palmerston North.

Cadets and Penguins work on badges with a focus on first aid, healthcare, leadership and general life skills. This is for children aged 6-17yrs. 

Gallipoli: The scale of our war combines the world of museums with the world-class creative artistry of Weta Workshop to immerse the students in the eight-month Gallipoli campaign.

The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition. 

This competition hosts Manawatu's finest young athletes where students compete to be the best in their chosen discipline. 

On Friday 24th March the #hardcorehorowhenua team came to Manawatu College to discuss social change when it comes to alcohol and young people.

Sam competed in the Olympic Weightlifting Champions League at 41 Degrees Weightlifting Club in Wellington on Sunday 19th March.

Juniors (Year 9 and 10s) play mixed nonstop cricket and Senior boys and Senior girls (year 11/12/13) play softball.

On Wednesday 15th March 15 students entered the annual Horowhenua-Kapiti Secondary Schools 7s held at Playford Park, Levin.

It started out in 1998 as the vision of Hokitika Community Constable Rob Fox for a community-based programme that could assist local youth in their personal development.

The annual College Swimming Sports competition was held on a humid day on Friday 10th March.

Year 13 student Chelsea Parlato has been competing in the NZ Division II  Swimming Competition at the Rotorua Aquatic Center held March 5-8th.

Congratulations to year 9 student Vettori Whaitiri who represented Manawatu College over the weekend, singing at a Rotary Club 'High Tea' which was a fundraiser for women's refuge.

The Poukai is an annual event held by Ngati Whakatere at Poutu Pa in Shannon.  

This week Waynne Napier announced his resignation from the position of senior Deputy Principal, relinquishing many of his current responsibilities while retaining some as he continues in a full-time middle management and teaching role in the College.

On Saturday 25 February Mrs Garner, along with six eager students went tramping for their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Tramp.

Day one of the annual Inter-House competition was held on Tuesday 21st February on what felt like the first real day of summer for 2017!

On Sunday 19 February Sam competed at the Olympic Weightlifting Champions League at 41 Degrees Weightlifting Club in Wellington.

On Wednesday 15 February I attended the final two sessions of the RYDA (Rotary Youth Driving Awareness) programme where the Year 12 students from Manawatu College and Horowhenua College and the seniors of Te Kuro Kaupapa Maori o Te Rito were participating.

The House Captains were awarded their badges at the first assembly for the year.

The NCEA results for 2016 were very pleasing and there were a number of course endorsements awarded to our students.

This year we are excited to have Whaioro Trust providing the Alternative Education programme Te Ata Kura for Horowhenua, Waiopehu and Manawatu College students.

The weather turned it on just in time for the annual Manawatu College Tabloid Sports competition!

This competition took place at the Lido Aquatic Centre in Palmerston North on the 4th and 5th February.

On Thursday 2nd February, all of the year 9 students set off down to the Foxton Beach Bible Camp for a night of fun.

On Wednesday 1st February Manawatu College held its opening Powhiri to welcome a number of new students and staff into the College.

Hello, I’m Maddi Parlato and between January 14th and 28th I spent what was probably the best two weeks of my life at the Rotary National Youth Science and Technology Forum in Auckland.
