What is an 'Innovative Learning Environment'?
The NZ Ministry of Education describes Innovative Learning Environments (ILE's) as...
"the complete physical, social and pedagogical context in which learning is intended to occur. An innovative environment is one that is capable of evolving and adapting as educational practices evolve and change – thus remaining future focused."

Similarly, CERI (The Centre for Educational Research and Innovation — a Division of the OECD) has spent the last 8 years analysing how young people learn in the 21st century and what learning is important in the 21st century. Their work has been carried out on a global scale and includes traditional research, case studies, and a range of literature reviews, independent projects and other methodologies in order to inform their work in research, design, policy recommendations, and supporting best teaching and learning practices.
