Young Enterprise Scheme Future Leaders CEO Leadership Day

Sarah Rickerby, OCCI, Events Coordinator —

On Thursday 4 April, alongside all of our Leadership and Resilience Day events, the Young Enterprise Scheme Future Leaders CEO Leadership Day took place at the University of Otago Business School.

It was an awesome day for the students, hosted by Jethro Gilbert and Jay Berwick, from Future Leaders. The students were given tasks and scenarios to help them find their own leadership style and develop skills to take back to their Young Enterprise Teams. We had 22 students from several Dunedin high schools interacting and sharing their experiences from their YES journey so far.

In addition to the motivating work from Jethro and Jay, the students heard from fantastic guest speakers throughout the day:
The Hon Paula Bennett shared her story and left the students to question, just as she did, “why not me?” Dr Paul Wood provided some thought provoking messages about authenticity, and Kiwibank CEO, Steve Jurkovich, gave the students some insight into what being a corporate leader means in today’s business environment and how he enjoys the role.
