The athletes were greeted in Foxton with a stiff westerly wind which was going to make running conditions testing along with some steep assents and descents.

The Manawatu Secondary School Cross Country Championships for 2021 were held on Wednesday the 19th of May, at Manawatu College in Foxton.

Year 9 Boys Race: 4.3km

Cillian Carroll 2nd, Jacob Lean 3rd, Henry Speedy 4th, Cody Clark 5th, Taine Flutey 6th, Tristan Chambers 9th, Ollie Davidson 10th, Alex McLeod DNF (injury during the race).

This was a very strong team performance from the Year 9 team, with all runners finishing inside the top ten.

Junior Boys Race: 5km

Reuben Duker 1st, Lucas Reed 3rd, Zachary Lee 5th, Jed Pettit-Court 6th, Jack Redington 7th, Cooper Furnell 9th, Jonty Giesen 17th.

This was a very strong field of runners in this grade. Reuben Duker showing his running class with a dominate performance to win, with Lucas Reed finishing in 3rd place.

Senior Boys Race: 5km

Nelson Doolan 1st, Sam Stichbury 2nd, Thomas Harding 3rd, Dirka Botha 4th, Max Fergus 6th, Mathew Jamieson 7th, Thomas Duncan 9th, Josh Langridge 10, Jonathon Jamieson 11th, Fergus Doolan 14th.

With a strong group of runners entered in this division, the team did not disappoint. It was a sea of white singlets over the finish line, with Nelson, Sam and Thomas taking out the top three spots and all ten runners finishing inside the top 14.

Overall a very successful day for the PNBHS Cross-Country team who also took out all of the three-men team competitions.
