PNBHS 2nd XV vs New Plymouth Boys' High School

The 2nd XV travelled to New Plymouth determined to bounce back from their defeat to Hamilton.

From the kick-off however, New Plymouth seized control of the game and attacked the PNBHS line with vigour. Strong defence from PNBHS held them at bay and PNBHS were gradually able to ease their way back into the game. Following some good attack play, PNBHS earned a penalty and a quick tap was rewarded as Kodie Albert-Papuni crashed over to hand PNBHS the lead.

A penalty to New Plymouth reduced the deficit shortly after. PNBHS quickly worked their way downfield and were rewarded for their pressure with a try to Reuben Davis following a good switch of play to leave them up 14-3 at the half. PNBHS started the second half positively before an intercept saw New Plymouth dot down and reduce the deficit. The 2nd XV were undeterred and began to move the ball which was stretching New Plymouth. A penalty extended the lead before a superb passage of play saw PNBHS put together numerous phases before Manu Latu crashed over and PNBHS looked to be cruising before a kick return for a try by New Plymouth reduced the PNBHS lead to 22-17 with a few minutes remaining. New Plymouth looked to have created an opportunity before Jonty Fleck snatched a kick out of the air and went 60m to seal the win.

A good performance from the 2nd XV secured a bonus-point victory and the manner is which they responded to their defeat to Hamilton at the weekend is a credit to the character of the group. They can now look forward positively to two home games vs Tauranga and Gisborne Boys. Final Score – 27-17 Scorers:
