3rd XI Hockey

The 3rd XI Hockey team plays in the Boys’ Division 1 competition and as such, plays against several other schools’ first teams. Some games have resulted in some heavy defeats, in particular against our 2nd XI and the Freyberg 1st XI. However, there have been some good winning results too, the most notable against Tararua College 1st XI who we defeated 4 – 3.

Despite starting slowly in most games which resulted in us having to soak up a lot of pressure, the boys are improving with each game. They are playing a good pattern of hockey and are slowly moving away from the direct long game up the middle of the field. They are progressing in attacking down the flanks and better utilising the open spaces on the field. In defence the boys are learning the various elements of marking in different areas of the field and have made huge strides forward in this department.

We hope to finish the season off well with only a few games remaining.
