Outdoor Education

What a fantastic week for our Year 6 students to have completed their camp. Having the camp so early in the year means the children bring everything they have learned back to school. There are a few photos in the photo gallery at the end of the newsletter.

After camp we see children demonstrating greater resilience, more confidence in their own abilities and more willingness to work in a team and collaborate. Developing these skills is so important and can have a huge impact on their academic performance. It is why we put such value on our Outdoor Education programmes.

Next week our Year 3 children have their Outdoor Education programme and the Junior children will be taking part in their programme in the coming weeks. Thank you for the support you give to make sure we can keep providing such rich educational experiences for the children.

School Board Meeting

Last week we held our first School Board meeting of the year. You can find out more about the Board on our website. At the meeting we agreed the dates for this years meetings. They are now on our School Calendar.

All schools will be holding Board Elections this year. Being a Board member is a great way to support your child's school. There will be lots of information about the Election in our upcoming newsletters.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Today is your last chance to sign up for the parent/teacher conferences. These are an opportunity for you to spend 10 minutes with your child's teacher to discuss how they have settled into school. It is a time for your child's teacher to hear from you about their strengths outside of school and how you can best work together to support your child to thrive at school.

You can sign up here using the following code; wz7ua

There are also a number of QR codes around the school to make bookings even easier for you.

Building Update

On Friday, the Year 2 children will move back into their block. It is lovely to see the wrapping and scaffolding gone and school returned to a much calmer state.

The Junior Netball and Games Court is pictured here being repainted. The area was water blasted and specialist machinery was used to complete the job. This is the start of the refurbishment of the concrete markings in the Junior area.

Lunchroom Update

Last year we notified you that Sange would be leaving our school at the end of Term 1. Due to some personal circumstances Sange is able to carry on for one more term, so the Lunchroom will continue until the end of Term 2.

Thank you Sange - we really appreciate all you do for our Tamariki. Lunches can be ordered through Kindo.

Drone Photograph

Now the new Turf has been laid it would be lovely to have a picture of the school showing how wonderful it looks. If there is anyone with a drone who could take a photograph please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz

Road Markings

Please remember to obey the road markings (e.g., broken yellow lines mean NO PARKING). Please no parking across our neighbours' driveways or grass verges. We have had a number of complaints recently.

Assembly Expectations

Our Awhi lessons are in full swing and it is wonderful to see so much correct uniform being worn with Manaakitanga and pride.

This week your children are learning about Assembly Expectations. We are thrilled that whole school assemblies are able to be run again so we can celebrate as a school. Ä€konga are learning about how we show respect during assemblies and make the presenters feel important. Next week’s lesson will focus on the ways we can make morning tea and lunch breaks fun and safe for everyone. We’re a rubbish free school and encourage package free lunchboxes. We will remind our Ä€konga to use our school value of Takohanga and take their rubbish home with them. We really appreciate your support of this initiative.

FOTS AGM News and More

FOTS held their AGM and first meeting of the year on Monday. It was great to see some new faces and a supportive group of new parents ready to get involved. Thanks to everyone who attended.

On Monday 17 March, FOTS will be holding an ice block sale after school. Ice-blocks will be on sale for $2 and children will be able to buy them on their way out of school.

It was also agreed at the meeting to open applications for the discretionary funding this term. FOTS retain a percentage of their fundraising for community applications that benefit our students. Recently they have funded additional classroom supplies, supported sports teams and purchased netball hoops for the school. This is in addition to the money donated for the Astroturf.

By clicking this link you can apply for discretionary funding. A FOTS sub-committee will consider applications.

The FOTS team have lots of events planned for the year. You are welcome to come to the next meeting on Monday 31 March at 6.30pm in the staffroom. All confirmed dates are on the School Calendar.
