Principal Update
Thank you to everyone who attended a "Meet the Teacher" session. It was a great way to start the year and feel connected to your child's team of teachers. In next week`s newsletter you will be able to sign up for our first set of parent/teacher conferences. Make sure you save the dates - Tuesday 10 March and Wednesday 11 March from 3.10pm-6.30pm, 10 minute sessions.
Using Hero
As I shared at the Meet the Teacher sessions, Hero is our new communications platform. It will be used for communicating and reporting to parents, so you will need to have signed up to access reports. In the meantime;
If you are a primary or secondary caregiver you are able to sign up for Hero.
If you have not signed up, you will continue to receive an email with a link to the newsletter or article, but you will not be able to see the full post.
If you have signed up for Hero, the platform defaults to only sending posts through the app. You can change your settings by going to your account button in the app and changing the settings;
If you have siblings at BBS these should be linked on the app.
Please remember that we use a consistent subject line for messages starting with "BBS" followed by the Year group of your child. This makes it easier for you to search if you are using email.
If you need help with any of those issues please complete this form and someone will get back to you.
School Donations/3P Learning Sites
Thank you to everyone who has paid their school donation for the year. We appreciate that. Please don't forget that we are really happy for you to spread payments across the year.
The 3P Learning Sites (Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress) are great tools for home and school. These come at a huge discount for families when they are accessed through school. You can find out more information here.

Outdoor Education Programme - Term 1
Term 1 is always a busy one with many Outdoor Education programmes happening during the term.
Our Waterwise Sailing Programme starts on Wednesday 04 March for those students who are at Level 5 of our Waterwise Programme.
The Year 6 camp at Carey Park is on from Monday 23 March to Wednesday 25 March. Thank you to all those parents who have offered to help – this is greatly appreciated. There will be a parent helpers meeting scheduled prior to the camp date.
The Year 3 Outdoor Education Days will be held at Long Bay Regional Park on Thursday 05 March and Friday 06 March. This is a one-day programme and parents will be notified which day their child will be attending. Bigfoot Adventures will once again be the facilitators of this programme.
The Junior Outdoor Education Day is scheduled for Friday 13 March. This will be held on our school grounds.
The Year 4 and 5 camps are to be held early in Term 2 - more information about this will come out shortly.
A reminder that Police Vets are required if a parent is intending to stay overnight at a camp. If you are unsure if you have a current Police Vet, please contact the school office or email Jo Hewitt – joh@brownsbay.school.nz.
Police Vets can take a number of weeks to be returned so please action this ASAP if required.
Procedure Change for Collecting your Child/Children During the School Day
We recognise that one-off family appointments happen for various reasons and at times cannot be avoided.
We do ask parents/caregivers try to avoid scheduling regular appointments or events for themselves, other family members, or their own children that take place during the school day (8:55am - 3pm) or require them to collect their child from school before the end of the day.
If this is unavoidable, please visit the school office first to sign out your child/children and you will be given a blue 'Student Collection Card' to take to your child's classroom teacher who will release your child to your care. If the class is not in their room, there will be a timetable on the whiteboard that will direct you to where your child will be eg: the swimming pool, the music studio, the library etc.
Please allow sufficient time for this process when collecting your child/children.
Thank you for your understanding and patience with this procedure.
Bicycles/Scooters
Only Year 5 and 6 children are allowed to ride their Bicycles or Scooters to school without supervision. If you would like your child to ride to school, please get a permission form from the school office to fill in - your child will then be given a Bicycle License and a High Visibility vest.
Children in or below Year 4 who ride their bicycle or scooter to and from school must be accompanied by an adult and wear an appropriate safety helmet.
