Newsletter Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on the newsletter format. I hope that you are finding it a bit more user friendly to read on a mobile device and the translation option is useful. There are usually lots of photographs at the bottom and if these include your child you can copy and save them.

In planning for next term I am also thinking about the frequency of the newsletter and the information we include. I would really appreciate it if you could complete the short survey linked here. The survey also includes the opportunity to be part of a Focus Group to talk about communication more generally.

School Policies

I am lucky to work with a committed and experienced Board of Trustees at Browns Bay School. The Board and the Principal work together to set the strategic direction of the school.

If you are interested in the work of the Board you can find out more on our school website.

Part of the work that the Board do is to review the Policies that govern the school. Policies are reviewed on a regular cycle. If you would like to review our Policies, check out our School Docs page.

Parent /Teacher Conferences

Early next week you will receive a follow up newsletter with details on how to book an appointment with your child's teacher. Thank you to everyone who has completed the form about collecting their child early. Your support is much appreciated.

Please complete the Google form by clicking here.

Welcome Room 7

I would like to welcome our new students in Room 7 and their teacher Sharlene Atkins.

Updating School Records

Thank you to all the families that have returned their Updating School Records forms that were sent home in Week 4. All requested changes have now been made.

If you would like to see the information that we have recorded for your child, you can do so at any time through the @school app.

Please remember to update the school office if any of the contact information for your child changes during the school year.

Hearing & Vision Concerns

For Vision Concerns:

Specsavers have a free full eye check for children who are between 5 to 15 years old, so parents can take their children to an optometrist at Specsavers for further assessment.

For Hearing Concerns:

For those children whose teachers/parents have serious concerns regarding their hearing, parents can contact Child and Family Service on 09-4868996 option 2 to make an appointment for a free hearing check.

ICAS Exams

Each year, Browns Bay School invites children from Years 4, 5 and 6 to sit the ICAS English, Digital Technologies, Maths and Science exams. This year the exams will be held in August and registrations are now open. If your child has sat an ICAS exam before, you will already have been sent an email with the registration information. If you haven’t received this but would like your child to take part, please contact Karen Cebalo karenc@brownsbay.school.nz . Please be aware though that the exams are very challenging with a good level of English required, and we do want to make sure all children feel successful in what may be their first external exam. The exams are all sat online in school time.

Year 5 Museum Trip

The Year 5 students went on their trip to Auckland Museum this week. They have been learning about the early Polynesian voyagers who journeyed from Hawaii and other Pacific Islands to land and settle in New Zealand. The children loved looking around the museum, seeing the exhibitions and the many ancient artefacts that date back to the early voyagers. They were lucky enough to have a learning session with some of the museum educators. They spoke about how the early voyagers came to New Zealand and showed them the tools that they used. The children got to take turns with the wooden drill that was used to help create the wakas that travelled such vast distances. This was a fantastic day that supported all of the learning they have been doing this term. Thank you once again to the parent helpers who supported us in making this trip possible and such a success.
