Principals Update

Welcome Back to School

The first days of school are always such joyful days. If you are new to the school and I have not met you yet I look forward to meeting you soon. I am usually at the pick up and drop off on Masterton Road in the mornings and after school.

I will be at all the "Meet the Teacher" meetings over the next couple of weeks. Lots of new information will be shared at the meetings so it is really helpful if one family member can make the meeting. If you can not make it, please try and connect with someone from your child's class so you don't miss out on the important information.

We usually send all information electronically, but as we are transitioning to a new platform this year there is some information coming home in hard copy. Please check your child's bag to make sure you have received the information. There is an important form if your child needs their medical information updated.

You will continue to receive newsletters every Wednesday.

Morning and After School Routines

We ask that children are not on the school grounds until 8.30am, unless they are attending a training session. This helps keep everyone safe.

After school, all children who are not walking home need to be collected by an adult at 3pm. Children may not play at school unattended after 3pm. If your child is not collected by an adult, their teacher will take them to the office.

We encourage you to use the drop off and pick up on Masterton Road. There is always a member of staff on duty (usually me) to make sure the children are safe. If you are running late at the end of the day your child will wait at the office for you.

Parking is not available in the pick up zone until 3pm, so please arrive after 3pm to help keep traffic flowing. It is illegal to wait on Masterton Road while you are waiting for your child.

We have transport for a disabled person who needs to enter the school car park between 2.40pm and 2.50pm. Queueing on Masterton Road prevents him from entering the car park and this can put the person at risk. It is essential that the transport can safely enter the car park.

Building Leaders and Learners

We have reworked our school vision "Building Leaders and Learners" for 2026.

Our reworked vision is more than just words on a page; it is a promise to our students. Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing the vision and our core values to the children through assemblies and classroom discussions. We believe it’s vital for students to understand the 'why' behind our vision, exploring how each element helps them grow as learners and individuals. We look forward to seeing them bring these ideas to life in their daily school journey.

Important Information regarding Dental and Hearing and Vision Testing

There have been some important changes to the process for dental and hearing and vision testing. The changes relate to what information schools share with the providers. They no longer obtain permission to carry out the checks. They have moved to an opt out system.

The following information has been provided by the Auckland Regional Dental Service:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDs) is a Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora-operated service, which provides FREE dental care to children across the greater Auckland areas. In order to prevent any eligible children missing out on receiving free dental care, ARDs is cross-checking their own records with school

rolls.

For our children’s better oral health and wellbeing, your child's school roll will be shared with the service as required. To find out more information about ARDs, please visit ards.co.nz or call 0800 TALK TEETH

Hearing and Vision will be visiting school next week. If your child is due to be tested, we will contact you shortly with more information.
