School Reports Feedback
Thank you for taking the time to complete the feedback on our school reports this year. The feedback showed that what you value most in the reports are understanding your child's progress and the effort that they put into their school work. While understanding how your children display the school values is important to you, it is less important than how much effort they display.
Many of you said that understanding your child's next learning steps is important to you, but understanding those from the current report isn't easy.
We will make changes in 2026 and part of that is reviewing what Etap offers us as a platform compared to other platforms. Your feedback will be included in our decision making.
Thank you to whoever made this comment;
Thank you for working so hard to improve and seek feedback. It is impossible to please everyone and must be tricky at times! :)
You are right! It is tricky, but it doesn't stop us trying to be even better!
Playground Update
We are at the very early stages of planning for the replacement of the middle school playground. We are working on applying for funding from grants to support the project and have asked some providers to quote for what an amazing playground could look like. As the project progresses we will talk more to children about what they love, but the pictures below show some of the possibilities.
To have the best playground we can imagine for the space is going to cost a phenomenal amount of money - in excess of $300,000, but we would love to achieve as much as we can so our children have great opportunities to play and we build something that is going to last for years to come.
Thank you for all the fundraising you are doing through the Math-A-Thon. We are also looking forward to hosting the Beats By Bingo FOTS fundraiser. Any support you can offer for these events will go a long way to help the project.
Other Property Projects
Our school is a really large site to manage and we are always looking to the next projects to keep the school looking great.
In the next couple of weeks we will complete some planting projects. This work is the final completion of the new Year 5-6 MLE building. The area along Masterton Road near the school office will be planted with low maintenance natives to make the area tidy and some trees will be planted along the fence line on the field to help with providing shade.
Further into the summer we have another roofing project to complete in Rooms 8-12. We are also hoping to complete some internal painting work over the summer holidays.
Managing Classroom Disruptions
During the day we try and keep use of the PA system to a minimum. Our classrooms are calm learning spaces and we do everything we can to minimise disruptions to learning.
If you know that your child is attending an appointment it is helpful if you can inform your child's teacher in the morning so we can limit the number of times we have to interupt teaching and learning in the classrooms.
Thanks in advance.

ICAS Registrations
ICAS registrations are now closed. The exams will begin in August with one exam per week. If you have registered your child but haven't received an email with these dates and what they need to bring, please contact Mrs Cebalo at karenc@brownsbay.school.nz
Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme (KOS)
Starting next week, your child will be taking part in the โKeeping Ourselves Safeโ (KOS) personal safety programme. This programme has been designed to provide children with the skills to cope in situations that might involve abuse.
It has three overall aims:
To recognise unsafe behaviours
To develop and strengthen skills children need to keep themselves safe
To support and encourage children to get help from caring adults
Keeping Ourselves Safe has been developed by the New Zealand Police. It will be taught by your childโs teacher, with help from a Police Education Officer as required.
To be successful, Keeping Ourselves Safe needs your help and support. Some homework activities will come home for you to work on with your child.
It is important that you participate as much as possible, so that you can reinforce the messages children are getting and help your child use their new skills with confidence.
We encourage you to view the programme online at:
If you do not want your child to take part in this programme - please email the teacher and let her know.
