Newsletter Feedback
Thank you to the people who gave feedback on the newsletter. Most people felt that the newsletter was about the the right length and they preferred receiving it fortnightly. Most people described the newsletter as fun and engaging, clear and concise and that it is easy to navigate to find important information. Some people disagreed with that.
At the Focus Group we talked about:
The amount of information families have to deal with, especially if they have children at multiple schools.
How difficult it is to find information at a later date because of the multiple ways that information is sent home.
Other forms of communication that might help with clear and concise information.
It`s not too late to have your say. The link to the survey is here.
Early next term (after I have done some more investigation) I will have more Focus Groups. Acting on the feedback, I can hold a couple of these in an online Forum in the evening so that more people can contribute.
Thanks to everyone who took part.
Bus Bay
Thank you to everyone who helps to keep the traffic flowing in the Bus Bay. Please remember the following:
Children should never get in or out of a car until it has entered the Bus Bay and is stationery.
The yellow lines at the top of the Bus Bay are not a safe place for children to enter or exit a car. Stopping here to let children out holds up other traffic.
If you need to help your child with a safety belt or get something from the boot, please wait until you have reached the front of the bus bay. This will help to keep everything moving.
Parent / Teacher Conferences
Bookings are now open for Parent /Teacher Conferences. Please note that due to class sizes and teacher availability, not all teachers are holding conferences at the same times. It really helps our teachers if you book early so they are well prepared.
You can book interviews on the School Interviews Website.
The code for booking is s9vgp.
Please support our teachers by only making 1 booking per family.
Thank you to those families in Year 4-6 who have confirmed arrangements for collecting children early on Wednesday 03 July. There have been some issues with some families accessing the form but you can confirm arrangements by clicking here.
On the Wednesday children in Years 4-6 who remain at school will be supervised by the leadership team and supporting staff. On Thursday there will be a mixed programme for all students at school.
Contacting School in the School Holidays
During the school holidays we are undergoing a major IT upgrade. This means that for large parts of the holiday school emails will be down.
Please be patient if you do not get a response to your email straight away.
I will have access to emails most of the time, so if the matter is urgent and you need a reply, please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz and I will do my best to get back to you quickly.

Super Cluster Cross Country
Our top runners from Year 4-6 competed at the Super Cluster Cross Country at Sunnynook Park. The course was super challenging and all those who participated should be very proud of themselves. There were over 60 competitors in each race across 8 different schools. Students were placed individually as well as a team of runners.
Individual Results:
A huge congratulations must go to Alex Rossouw who came 3rd in the Year 5 Boys event.
Other top 10 individual finishers were as follows:
Year 4 Girls: Leonie Berla 8th
Year 5 Girls : Charlotte Weeks 4th, Alexa Weeks 8th and Maeve McGovern 9th
Year 6 Girls: Amelia Dobbie 9th
Year 5 Boys: Callan Basson 7th and Theo Corbett 10th,
Year 6 Boys: Ted Brien 7th and DJ Lee 10th
Team Results:
Year 5 Girls– 1st Placed School

Year 6 Boys– 2nd Placed School
Browns Bay School – 3rd Placed School Overall.
We would also like to make a special mention of three of our Year 5 boys who stopped on the course to help a competitor from another school who was in distress, sacrificing their own race – this act of sportsmanship was very touching and shows true character. Ka pai Callan Basson, Harley Kent and Jack McDonald!
While our Winter sports like Netball and Hockey got underway this term and will continue next term, we have other sports that have played Term 1 and 2 with Semester 1 coming to an end before a new semester starts next term. Congratulations to all the players and teams who committed and played in Semester 1 for Basketball/ Miniball and Flippaball. We hope that you had an enjoyable season. A huge thank you must go to all the parents who coached and managed teams – sports can only operate at school level with your assistance and support! It is so appreciated! See photo gallery below for more photos.
Outstanding results from Semester 1:
Miniball – Year 4 Bulldogs 1st A Grade
Basketball – Year 6 Heat 2nd A Grade
FlippaBall - Year 5 Sharks 3rd C Grade
Year 2 Trip to Sealife Kelly Tarlton`s Aquarium
Year 2 students from Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4 went off on their trip to Sealife Kelly Tarlton`s Aquarium this week. This was a trip to conclude our Inquiry learning topic 'Save our Seas'.
They had a great classroom session at Kelly Tarlton`s about sea conservation and learnt what we can do to help stop the pollution and over-fishing of our oceans.
They were also able to see and engage with lots of different sea creatures and learn about what they need to thrive.
Some highlights were going through the shark tunnel, seeing the rescued sea turtle, and their penguin colony.
See more photos in the photo gallery below.
Buddy Classes
The Room 3 and Room 20 buddy class got together recently. The Year 5 students helped their Year 2 buddies to finish their poetry and to share their poem on Seesaw. Once they had finished their work the Year 2 buddies enjoyed showing their Year 5 buddies how to use the Lego, Jenga block and other equipment in their class. It is wonderful to see how much the students enjoy spending this time together.
Year 6 Friendship Games
As part of their training, the Year 6 Friendship Games Coordinators at Browns Bay School have learned how to teach students in the Junior playground how to use an overhand and underhand toss. They have also learned how to teach some fun games like Volcanos and Ice Creams. A huge thank you goes out to the Friendship Games Coordinators for doing such an amazing job!
