Pool Opening

During the summer we are hoping to open the pool to the community again. Last year, the season was curtailed because the pool needed re-painting, but this year we are looking at the possibility of making the pool available for the whole season.

There is quite a process involved and we will need the support of the community to make it work.

The water in the pool needs to be tested three times every day and adjustments made to the chemicals. There will be some days during the holidays when the Property team are able to manage some of this, but they are not available all of the time or at weekends. The person or people undertaking responsibility need to attend training and hold an NZQA qualification. It is possible to build the cost of paying someone to undertake the responsibility into the hire costs, but if you are willing to volunteer it will help to keep the costs down for everyone.

At the end of each day we also need someone to take responsibility for making sure that the changing rooms have been left clean and tidy for the next day. This includes disposing of any rubbish that has been left and giving the rooms a quick sweep. If we can put a timetable of helpers together, it will be another cost that we don't have to include in the pool key fees.

If you are willing to volunteer for the water testing for some or all of the holidays I would love to hear from you. Please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz

School Board Elections

Voting is still open for the School Board elections. Please check your inbox for information from Election Pilot if you haven't voted yet.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We have now completed our Keeping Ourselves Safe unit, and it has been a valuable time of learning and discussion for our students. The programme helped children understand how to make safe choices, both in person and online, and how to seek help if something doesn’t feel right.

During the lessons, we were surprised by how many children shared that they sometimes talk to strangers online or use devices without an adult nearby. While it’s natural for children to be curious, these situations can put them at risk. We encourage families to take time to talk about safe online behaviour, check privacy settings, and ensure that device use is supervised.

If you have not yet had the chance to look at the resources I encourage you to take the time to have a look by following this link. If you can reinforce conversations at home, together, we can help our tamariki grow up confident, informed and safe in both the digital and the real world.

If you missed the Year 5 newsletter last week it is linked here.

Math-A-Thon

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Math-A-Thon. The funds that were raised will go towards an upgrade of the Middle School playground. It is going to be a huge project, but it is great to have made a start.

Morgana, Sarah and the team put a huge amount of time and energy into FOTS. Thank you to the team who are working so hard to build community as well as fundraising for projects.

I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Beats by Bingo evening. It will be lovely to see everyone supporting our school in a fun and relaxed setting.

New Lunch Options

A parent from our community is now ready to accept orders for lunches, as an alternative to Ezlunches. The lunches can be ordered online and will be delivered to your child's classroom. Orders can be placed up to 9am on the day of delivery.

Check out the new menu at  www.mealy.co.nz
