PE Shed Break In
On Monday night our PE shed was broken into. It is always upsetting when we have break ins at school - particularly for Cherie and Adele who work so hard to maintain our resources. There was some damage to equipment and the Rugby shirts that our team were due to play in yesterday were taken. The replacement of the lock and the equipment come at a significant cost.
The photos below show a bag that the rugby uniforms were in. There is also a photo of some ex-puplis/pupils wearing the same shirts that were taken.
Some of the items that were left and the graffiti suggest that the damage was caused by young people.
We have notified the Police and are checking our CCTV cameras. Please could you ask your children to let you know if they hear anything about the incident. It is possible that older siblings may hear something in the community. It would also be amazing if there are some willing hands in the community to come and help Cherie and the team put the PE shed back together. We would like to do that as soon as possible, so children across the school can access the equipment again. If you are free at any time tomorrow, please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz and we will try and put a working bee together.
Beats by Bingo and Math-A-Thon
Thank you to everyone who has started supporting the Math-A-Thon and to those of you who have bought tickets for the Beats By Bingo Fundraiser.
Beats by Bingo is the first parent fundraiser evening we have had for a number of years and it is a great way to build a community. You don't need any special musical knowledge, just a couple of friends and your own refreshments. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of people there.
Gardens
Thank you to everyone who has mentioned the gardens at the front of the school. They have given the grounds a real lift. This week, we are looking forward to seeing some trees planted along the fence line which will help give some more shade for children during the summer months.
Keeping Ourselves Safe
This week, children have started learning about 'Keeping Ourselves Safe.' Thank you to those parents who came to the information session with our Community Constable. Tanya Wansink will be in school over the next couple of weeks helping to teach the programme. If you would like to find out more, you can check out the resources here.
Classroom Toilets: Please also note that if you are at school before the bell goes at 3pm please do not use the classroom toilets.
These toilets are for children only and adults should not take pre-schoolers into the toilets. Up to 3pm you are welcome to come to the school office, or use the toilets in the school hall.
After 3pm there are no toilets available at school. The toilets in the hall are exclusively for use by sKids (our after school program) and other areas of the school are locked.
Thank you for your understanding.
New School Lunch Option
We’re excited to let our school community know that during Term 3, Browns Bay School will have a new lunch provider: Mealy.
Mealy is a locally run business led by one of our school mums, and they’ll be offering fresh, healthy, home-style lunches delivered directly to the school each day.
All meals are prepared in a Council-approved kitchen and designed with kids in mind – nutritious, tasty and lunchbox friendly.
Ordering will still be done through Kindo – we’ll share more details as we get closer to their launch.
For a sneak peak at what they have to offer, join their social pages.

Math-A-Thon
Thank you to all the people who have already created their own fundraising site through “Go Raise It” for our 2025 Math-A-Thon. All money raised will go towards upgrading our playgrounds at BBS. Please see last week's newsletter with images of what the upgrade might look like.
Congratulations to all our lucky prize draw winners last Friday. Max from Room 33 was our lucky major prize winner who won a microphone!
This Friday, all students who have created their fundraising site and secured some sponsorship will be entered into the prize draw.
Please scan the QR code to take you to the site and follow the prompts.
Hellers Sausage Sizzle Lunch
Browns Bay School are running a Sausage Sizzle lunch at school on Thursday 21 August. This event has been kindly sponsored by Hellers Sausages and the funds raised will go towards new Netball uniforms for all Netballers in 2026.
Sausage sizzle orders are available on Kindo for $3 each. We will require volunteers to help cook/prepare sausages on the day, so if you can lend a hand at any stage between 10am-2pm on the day that would be amazing - please fill in the Google form here.
FOTS Discretionary Fund
By clicking this link, you can apply for discretionary funding.
A reminder that applications close this Friday 08 August.
Library Couch
A massive thank you to our FOTS team for generously funding a new couch for the library. The children are really enjoying it and a replacement was long overdue.
