SPORTS ASSEMBLY
Thank you to all of you who attended the Year 3-6 Sports Assembly last week. It was a great way to celebrate our teams who have completed their competitions, and recognise all the adults who help and make our sports teams possible. We look forward to running more of these in the future.
Congratulations to Maeve McGovern and Callan Bassan who were recipients of the School Sports Cups at this assembly.
SUPER CLUSTER HOCKEY
On Tuesday 22nd July, we sent a Y5/6 Hockey team to compete at the Super Cluster Hockey tournament at Rosedale. The day had brilliant weather and some awesome hockey was played.
They managed to place 5th out of 8 teams and were unlucky not to be playing for a top 4 spot in the semi's and finals. The team had 4 wins out of 5 games and were tied with 3 teams on 7 points in pool play. Unfortunately, the other teams had higher goals scored tallies, leaving us third in the pool.
The team came together really well through the day, with some good team play and passing, as well as some great scrambling defence.
Goal scoring was shared by 5 of the squad with numerous assists and agonisingly close shaves.
Goal scorers: Agnes, Alex, Hein, Layla and Osanda
A Huge thank you to Craig Fowler and Sarah Voss for running the team on the day.
SEMESTER 2 - Basketball
We have been informed that Harbour Basketball is taking over the running of the ECB Leisure Centre Basketball Competition. This will mean that there are changes to cost as well as competition dates. We have communicated with all those involved earlier today. This has been totally out of our control, thank you for your understanding.
SKIING
Austin Liu (Room30) participated at the The Remarkables National Junior Schools Ski Champs last Saturday, 19th July. Unfortunately, he was sick on the race day, but he battled through to come 7th place in the Year 3-4 category. Congratulations Austin!
Auckland FC Mascot
Agnes from Year 6 recently took part in the Auckland Football Clubs mascot drawing competition and her design has been chosen as the final winner!
They’ll now be creating the club’s new mascot based on her drawing, which is incredibly exciting for her.
Agnes chose to draw a Kingfisher. It’s a bird that is native to New Zealand. She thought it would represent Auckland’s spirit and speed — and also because it’s small but strong and quick, which she felt made it a good symbol for the team.
On the 11th of July she was also invited to appear on the Breakfast TV show together with the Auckland FC CEO to talk about her design, which made it even more special!
WORLD FAMOUS IN BBS - Dancing
Mckenzie Rm 20 participated in an independent dance competition over the holidays. The SADI Gratitude Dance Awards was held at Centre Stage Theatre in Orewa from the 7th - 11th of July.
She was awarded 3 Silver Awards for her solo performances with 82/100 for both Ballet & Hip Hop and 86/100 for Musical Theatre. Well done Mckenzie!
