Change to School Assemblies
We are prepared and ready to go for another busy term at Browns Bay School. After some feedback from teachers and whānau we have reverted to Whole School assemblies this term. These will be held in Weeks 5 and 10. They may be a little longer as we settle into a new routine. Thanks in advance for your patience.
School Calendar / Fridge List
To try and help with more effective communication we have started a Google calendar for school events. If you regularly use a Google calendar you can subscribe to the school calendar here.
Attached at the end of this newsletter is what we have named a 'Fridge List.' It contains all the school events for the term. This term we will trial sending this home in hard copy alongside the Read-A-Thon information on Monday. You can pin it to your fridge and hopefully it will help everyone to keep on top of all the activities happening this term. There will be an opportunity to give feedback in upcoming newsletters.
Start of School Dates 2025
The Board have approved the date for starting school in 2025. We are still waiting for information from the Ministry of Education and our local schools regarding possible Teacher Only days.
Browns Bay School will start the year on Monday 03 February. School will be closed on Thursday 06 February (Waitangi Day) and Friday 07 February and will re-open on Monday 10 February. Please note these dates if you are making plans for the summer holidays.
Friends of the School
Read-A-Thon
Starting next week, Browns Bay School in conjunction with our Browns Bay ‘Friends of the School’ Parent Association are running a Read-A-Thon fundraiser to assist us in raising funds towards our exciting new sports upgrade.
We are fundraising to repair and upgrade our Basketball and Netball courts and create an Astroturf field that will allow our Tamariki to play sports all year round.
We have the opportunity to reinvigorate the courts outside Rooms 14-17, to expand the number of hoops available for playing and practicing as well as building an entirely new Astroturf area that has line markings for Basketball, Netball and Tapu ae.
Our students will come together and participate in our Read-A-Thon. They will be seeking online sponsorship for their efforts. All funds raised will go towards this exciting upgrade to our sports facilities.
We need your support to sponsor our Tamariki and encourage them to get reading. Our challenge is to “read our way around New Zealand” in 3 weeks - 42 stops in all…2 jumps a day. We will be reading at school each day and at home to complete our challenge.
Fundraising is a great way for our whole school to come together and work towards a common goal.
All information on how to create your own fundraising site will come home on Monday.
Thank you for your support......Let’s get reading Browns Bay!
