Principal Update

In previous newsletters I have talked about the changes to reporting this year. Hero is working hard to make the necessary changes and we are looking forward to sharing the new system with you. It may take a little longer than usual to be ready, but it is important to us that the reports are accurate and meaningful.

ERO’s Research Centre wants to hear from Parents and Whānau about their child’s school’s assessment and reporting practices, as part of a National Project. Here is the link to a 10‑minute survey: https://www.research.net/r/Assessment_Parent_Survey

Teachers will be at school on Thursday working on the New Curriculum, assessment practices and reporting. Please remember that this is a Teacher Only Day and school is closed.

Thanks to Sarah Paterson for organising another fun Travelwise day. It is always heartening to see the Pick Up/Drop Off zone so empty and traffic flowing freely around school.

During the first week of next term I will be away from school. This means there may not always be someone at the Pick Up/Drop Off bay in the mornings. During the Winter months, the drop off tends to be used more so please remember;

  • Ask your child to hop out as quickly as they can

  • Adults please stay in your car

  • If you do need to hop out, please wait in the queue until you are at the bottom of the drop-off so that other people are not held up.

There will always be someone on duty at the end of the day so children will be safe and taken to the office if you are running a few minutes late.

School Events

Travelwise Event

A big thank you to all the parents and children who took part in our first Travelwise event of 2026. It was a fantastic success, with so many students choosing sustainable ways to travel. The Easter hats and headbands looked incredible, and thanks to Auckland Transport, several spot prizes were awarded to children who used the Zebra Crossing and embraced the fun by wearing their Easter hats.

As we head into Term 2, we will continue to prioritise safety on the roads around our school.
