Year 5/6 Newsletter - Writer's Toolbox
An exciting new AI tool to support students with writing.
Through the last term of 2024 we trialled an online tool called Writer's Toolbox to support students with their writing. We had fantastic feedback from teachers and students. Students motivation, focus, the quality of their work and pace of learning all increased.
This video shows you a parents perspective.
The Writer's Toolbox is a comprehensive approach to writing that teaches grammar, sentence types, paragraph types and how to use these for different writing purposes. This year we are implementing the Writer's Toolbox across the school, which includes an online AI component for Year 5-6 students. This newsletter gives you more information about the programme.
Students in Year 5 and 6 are able to write into the programme and receive instant feedback on their work. This component made a huge difference to students in our trial.
Because the feedback that children receive happens in real time, they are able to act on it straight away. It can often feel demoralising for students to put a lot of effort into a piece of work and not receive feedback until they have built on mistakes. With the online platform the feedback they receive allows them to continually think about improvements and act on the feedback.
You can see an example of the dashboard below.
Having trialled the platform last year, we are confident that it will make a significant difference to your child's writing this year and we are looking forward to starting to use it next week.
The cost of accessing the Writer's Toolbox has been added to your Kindo account.
The platform is accessible to children outside of school hours. If you would like more information about how you can support your child please complete this form below and we will be in touch about a parent information session.
