Drop Off and Pick Up
I have noticed a lot more children walking to school this term. It helps to ease the traffic in the surrounding area so thank you if you have encouraged your child to walk to school.
I do everything I can to help keep the traffic moving, but there have been some afternoons recently when the traffic has been queueing past the end of Masterton Road and onto Browns Bay Road. This stops buses being able to get through and as a consequence the school has to respond to many calls. Please do not queue on Masterton Road. You are welcome to park locally and wait until after 3pm to arrive at school.
Road Patrol
Our current Year 5 children are excited about becoming Road Patrol Monitors next year. This year, we have had 2 parent volunteers who help man the crossings with the children and this makes a massive difference to us. It is over 2 hours of teacher time every week that has been saved and it is time that teachers can spend planning learning for your child.
Volunteers do not need to be parents of Senior children. Anyone can help out. Don’t miss out on your chance to help our school. You only need to volunteer for 30 minutes once a week. Please email tanyas@brownsbay.school.nz if you can spare some time.
Class Placements 2026
Thank you to those people who contacted Jo and Tanya. Our class placement process is now well underway.
If you know that your child is leaving at the end of the year, please contact heidig@brownbay.school.nz and she will update our records. We always ensure that children have some of their friends in their new class, so knowing who is returning in 2026 is an important part of the puzzle.
We have also completed our out of zone process and planned for numbers in the Junior school in 2026. If you have a child in zone who is starting in 2026 but is not enrolled yet, please go to the school website and complete an online enrolment form as soon as possible.

Korean and Chinese Speech Competitions
Last week, some of our bilingual students presented a speech in their home language. The Browns Bay School competitions were judged by Cecilia and Annie, (Mandarin), and Gemma, (Korean), based on the Auckland Primary Principals' Association speech rubric. Our students all spoke exceptionally well and we are extremely proud of them. Sometimes, when our bilingual children become fluent in English, they lose some of their fluency in their home language. These students have shown that they are truly confident and competent in their bilingualism.
The winning students will present their speeches at the Interschool competitions this week and next.
Congratulations to these students who will represent our school:
Celine, Rm 27 - BBS winner of the Mandarin competition
May, Rm 19 - BBS runner up
Elynn, Rm 25 - BBS winner of the Korean competition
Travelwise Event - Twin Day
Get ready for some fun – the Travelwise Team is thrilled to announce our next Travelwise Event on Friday 14 November - Twin Day! Grab a buddy (or even a group of 3, 4, or more), and come to school dressed the same – matching clothes, hairstyles, and all! The best part? If you come to school using sustainable transport - walking, biking, scootering, bus, or park and walk—you don’t need to wear your school uniform. No gold coin needed. Let’s see how many “twins” (and triplets, and quadruplets!) we can spot around the school as we celebrate being Travelwise together!

It was such a fun night! Thank you especially to all the parent helpers, teachers and volunteers that helped on the night!
