Pool Opening
In the newsletter last week, I explained the difficulty of opening the pool during weekends and over the summer holidays. As I explained, the water needs to be tested regularly throughout the day when the pool is open. The person testing the water needs to hold a certificate and we need to arrange that as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, we have not yet found anyone from within our community who is willing or able to volunteer to help out, so we will start to look to employ someone for the position. This will need to be added to the hire of a key, which will increase the cost significantly.
Next week, I will advertise for the position through the student job search, but if you know someone who is 18 or over who may be interested, please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz
Before we spend a significant amount of time employing someone for the job, we need to ensure that it is worthwhile and we can cover all of our costs. To help with that, please could you complete the expression of interest form for a pool key if the cost is $200-$225 per key. Based on some initial calculations, we would need to charge at least this amount to cover the cost of employing a staff member for weekends and periods when the Property team are on leave, the cost of chemicals and cleaning materials.
Please understand that I really want the pool to be open for the community to use. It is a great facility and I know how much fun the children have at weekends and during the school holidays. We will continue to work on a solution but any help or support you can give will be very welcome.
Awhi Update
Friendship Know How
Everyone wants and needs at least one good friend. Learning to be a friend is an important skill. This week's lesson is teaching your children how to be a great friend when things are going well and when things don’t quite go to plan. It follows on nicely from last week’s lesson about tattling and telling. We want our students to know how to solve kids sized problems themselves and to ask for help when the problem is bigger than them. It would be wonderful if you could reinforce this learning at home, during play dates etc. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe.

Thank you also to all the FOTS volunteers who cooked and organised the day for everyone! Another great fundraiser.
