Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) – Years 4-6 2026
At BBS, we operate a BYOD program as an option for students in Years 4, 5, and 6.
Why bring a device? Bringing a personal device ensures your child always has immediate access to digital learning. It speeds up their workflow by saving account details directly to the device and eases the transition between school and home learning. Students who do not bring their own device will share school-owned devices.

Sign the Agreement: Any student bringing a device must have a parent/guardian complete the BYOD AGREEMENT online.
Setting up your device - Chromebook
Our preferred device is a Chromebook, as it integrates seamlessly with our Google Workspace. However, your child’s school Workspace Google account must be added correctly for the Wi-Fi to work.
Important Note on Family Link: If you have set up the Chromebook with "Family Link" (which happens automatically if you selected "For a child" during setup), you must add the school account as a new user on the login screen. We cannot do this at school due to parental permission settings.
The Issue: Our secure Wi-Fi will not allow a personal (non-school) account to connect. Even if the school email is logged in via the browser within the personal account, the device itself must be logged into the school account to access the internet.
How to add the School Account:
Turn on the Chromebook.
Do not log in. Instead, look at the bottom of the home screen and select “Add Person”.
If asked, enter your Parental Code (Family Link).
Enter your child’s school email address (ending in @my.brownsbay.school.nz)
Enter the school password.
Once finished, log out. You should now see two separate accounts on the home screen: their personal one and their school one.
