Building Work and Landscaping Project
Thank you for your patience while we addressed the retaining wall at the Browns Bay Road school entrance. I know it was not ideal for the work to take place during term time, but with the recent rain it is a relief to know the retaining wall has now been replaced.
Our next property project at school is to tackle some of the planting projects that were part of the planning after the building of the new block. As part of that work the school had a draft concept plan drawn up. We are now reviewing that with a view to planting in late Winter and early Spring.
This is a great time for us to reach out to the school community for help, advice and support. If you have expertise, are involved in the industry or have contacts that you know are reliable, it would be great to hear from you. Please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz or give the school office a call.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Disco on Friday. Discos are a highlight of the school year for the children and they absolutely love them. The weather conditions were challenging, so thank you for your patience.
Special thanks to Morgana and Sarah who lead FOTS with such commitment. They have a lot planned for the remainder of the year, so please do all you can to get behind the team.

School Events
At Browns Bay School, as part of Road Safety week (12May-18May), the students are learning how to be safe on and around our roads. This Friday, 16 May, we will celebrate our Road Safety heroes. Let's all come to school using sustainable transport and dress up as Road Safety heroes (fire fighters, teachers, police, road workers), or your favourite superhero.
Friday, 16 May, is also Pink Shirt Day, so children are welcome to add a splash of pink to their costumes to promote kindness and inclusivity at BBS.
There is also a Travelwise drawing and colouring competition this week. All students who have chosen to participate need to return their form to their teacher by this Friday at 9am. There will be one prize winner per class.
There will be a Teacher Walk on Friday for our Travelwise Day. These are the four points where teachers will be meeting the students at 8:20am:
Corner of Miri Road and Hyde Road
Corner of Beach Road and Browns Bay Road
Corner of Masterton Road & Korotaha Terrace
Corner of Philson Terrace and Browns Bay Road
Before school on Tuesday, Mrs Vermeij and the Travelwise team walked to the corner of Hyde and Browns Bay Roads. They held up placards to promote road safety messages. It was wonderful to receive so many waves and honks of support from community members that drove past. A wonderful way to celebrate Road Safety week.

The "Glow with the Flow" Discos held on Friday were a huge success. It was fantastic to see all the cool costumes and all the kids had such a fun evening. The hall and foyer looked amazing thanks to our wonderful helpers, and a massive thank you to all our amazing parents who helped on the night and made cupcakes to sell. The balloons, tattoos and hair tinsel were also very popular again this year - thank you Yani and team for your effort with this. Overall it was such a fun event and we can't wait for the next one later in the year!
