The Multicultural Centre: a continuous work in progress
We are dedicated to making the Multicultural Centre a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, and "at home". Check out our latest improvements and stay tuned for more updates!
In 2022, the Council conducted a pre-engagement with cultural and ethnic communities to understand their aspirations for the upcoming Multicultural Centre. The feedback highlighted the need for a dance floor and a user-friendly AV system to meet the diverse needs of our multicultural communities.
You spoke, and we listened!
Thanks to the generous contribution from the Lottery Community Facility Grant by the Department of Internal Affairs and the professional work by New Era Technology, two fantastic, user-friendly AV systems were installed in our main function rooms last August. These upgrades make our venue perfect for parties, festivals, cultural celebrations, and conferences! 🎤🔊🎵
Right now, an incredible sprung timber dance floor is being installed in the ground floor Function Room. With a 10mm foam underlay, this 100m² recycled basketball court flooring will offer the best dancing experience in the entire city! Get ready to dance the night away! 💃🕺
And what about the Function Room on the first floor? With its spaciousness, brightness, and fantastic balcony overlooking the netball and volleyball courts, it was almost perfect. However, one element was casting a shadow on its perfection: the clear glass doors and windows to the mezzanine, which didn't provide privacy for users. We acknowledged this and - presto! - we fixed it with a light, full-length frosting on all the glass doors. This allows light to filter into the room while providing privacy for your activities!
Now the future projects: we are thrilled to announce that a new lift will be installed soon. Work will commence in a couple of weeks, promising a completely new experience at the Multicultural Centre. Unfortunately, the replacement of the lift will cause some disruption. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
By the end of April, moreover, the Centre will have brand new ladies and gents' toilets, along with two fully accessible, gender-neutral toilets. We love the idea that the Multicultural Centre - and its facilities - will become even more inclusive, catering to everyone in our community!
Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
