Alert to upcoming teacher only days and Paid Union Meeting

Julia Davidson —

I need to alert you to some days your 9 & 10 students won’t be at school later this month.

- 21 & 22 November are both Teacher Only Days. Most schools in Wellington will be shut on these days (or for two days in that week) for staff to work on the NCEA change package.

- There will also be a Working From Home Day on Tuesday 29 November. This is because the PPTA have notified us that they are having a Paid Union Meeting from 10am - 12pm in Porirua on that day. This is to discuss the recently received settlement offer from the Ministry of Education.

The meeting is for all union members around the Wellington region and, unfortunately, we had no say over the date or time, which was governed by the availability of the venue. Because of logistics with buses we have to plan for staff to be away from WGC from 9am - 1pm. Bringing students in for two periods, without any school buses, seemed problematic, so staff will use the time to prepare for 2023.

Work will be set and students will be expected to have it completed ready for their next lesson.

Students in 9E, I, T & P won’t be working from home. They have their Escarpment Walk or their trip to Matiu / Somes Island that day and these will go ahead as planned.

Any students who are unable to be at home that day can come to school and they will be supervised by our very small number of non-union staff. Please let me know by email as soon as possible - julia.davidson@wgc.school.nz - if you need your child to be supervised

I appreciate this isn’t ideal, but the NCEA days have been in the calendar all year and we have no ability to influence the timing of a Paid Union Meeting.

Thank you for your ongoing support of WGC.
