Matilda Wickbom (2010 - 2014)

Wellington Girls' College —

After leaving Wellington Girls' College in 2014, Matilda moved to Christchurch to complete a Bachelor of Performing Arts Degree at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art. There she focused on singing, acting, and dancing, majoring in Musical Theatre.

Just before graduating she auditioned for the New Zealand Opera chorus for the audition experience, which resulted in her performing in their 2018 season of Puccini's Tosca, along with Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury and Rossini's The Barber of Serville.  From there Matilda honed in on the classical side of her voice, as well as performing in various Musical Theatre productions such as Les Miserable with Showbiz Christchurch.

Matilda spent two years working full-time in administration at a law firm while saving to complete post-graduate studies in classical singing overseas, and also attended the New Zealand Opera School in 2019.  However, due to Covid, she decided to move to Wellington to complete her post-graduate studies at the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōkī instead.  She completed her final recital at the beginning of November after being under the incredible tutelage of Dr Margaret Medlyn and Dr Jenny Wollerman for the past year, performing in one of the lead roles of Eurydice in their production of Orpheus in the Underworld (which due to Alert Levels was unable to be performed with an audience).

2022 is already looking to be an exciting year for Matilda, as she plans to work and sing with the New Zealand Opera Chorus in Wellington.  She is so grateful for her time at Wellington Girls' College and the support received from tutors; especially her teacher Linzi Heighway, who inspired her journey significantly and supported her theatre journey hugely during her time at Wellington Girls' College.
