Ngā Korimako
On the weekend of the 24th of February Ngā Korimako, WGC and WC's auditioned choir, had their first weekend workshop of the year. This took place at WC’s Alan Gibbs Centre over two sessions: one on Friday evening and one all day on Saturday.
“It’s the first time we come together as a choir,” said WGC Arts Committee leader Ella Clements, “so it’s quite exciting and we learn new pieces, meet new people, and generally start to get an idea of the sound we are making.” Ella, who is Year 13 and has been a member of Ngā Korimako since Year 11, was pleased about all the new students from both WGC and WC this year, and said they are already fitting in seamlessly.
The workshop was the choir’s first rehearsal and practice as they begin their preparations for the Big Sing, a New Zealand secondary schools choral festival involving thousands of students and taking place in ten regional centres. The Wellington regional event will be at the Michael Fowler Centre in early June, and Ngā Korimako will hope to be selected to move on to the Cadenza and/or Finale events later in the year.
