Teaching Staff:
‘Ohonga’ is broadly defined as ‘rising up’. Through 'whakaoho' or deliberate action (which may be inquiry) towards realisation, we hope to achieve Ohonga /awakeningthat then translates into oho or productiveand fruitful classroom practice.
The Professional Growth Cycle supports teachers to use and meet Our Code, Our Standards | Ngā Tikanga Matatika, Ngā Paerewa in their everyday practice. The Code and Standards apply to every certificated teacher, regardless of role or teaching environment. The Code also applies to those who have been granted a Limited Authority to Teach.
Principals and professional leaders will confirm annually that each teacher has participated in the cycle and provide a statement to the teacher about whether they meet the standards. This confirmation allows for progression up the steps to the top of the basic pay scale and, once there, to renew teacher registration. If in the Principal or professional leader’s judgement the teacher does not currently meet the standards, they will discuss that with the teacher and provide support to enable improvement.
Your professional leader will be the person you are directly responsible to for your core professional duties and will be assigned by the Principal.
