Collaborative Site-Specific Art with Renowned Artist Michel Tuffery
It was a great experience to work for two days under the guidance of renowned artist Michel Tuffery (14-15 June).
He set the framework for us and gave us suggestions, but really trusted us to pursue our own style in creating visual works. It was useful to me to see how the other students interpreted his suggestions. The other students were from eleven other high schools in the Wellington region.
I really enjoyed watching Mr Tuffery work, because he draws on his Pacific heritage and works with bright colours in several mediums that is breathtaking to see. I was also very impressed of his interpretation of the theme which was Matariki and how he used the space of the windows of the shop front and within the car park to his advantage. I am so proud that my collaboration with Mr Tuffery and the other students will be on display at Te Papa until April next year.
In the future I will try to use some of the skills I learned, especially with the geometric lines. I truly appreciate the opportunity given to me by the school. Please stop by Te Papa to check it out!
