Attendance information

Julia Davidson —

You might be interested in some of the material from the ERO report into attendance.

These are national statistics. The WGC statistics are much higher - this year, even at the peak of Covid, our attendance rates sat at 84%. (In a ‘normal’ year they’d be above 90%.) We are also different from many other schools in that almost all of our absence is explained, as opposed to truancy.

But of course this is the whole school data. We do have students whose attendance isn’t as high as others and we deal with them individually. And we are going to have to remind people when they ask about going on holiday during term time about the possible impact of that on education.

One of the most telling statistics is that if your child’s attendance is sitting at 90% throughout their time at school, they will have missed one whole year of schooling by the end of Yr 13.

If you’d like to read more, the report is available on the ERO website - https://ero.govt.nz/our-research/category/attendance-in-new-zealand
