Principal's Message
Kia ora, e te whānau
Only a few updates from me this month:
The Board has met for the first time this year.
As is required each year, they have elected their officers. The Presiding member is Katie Graham and the Deputy is Andrew Brown - both back into the same roles they held last year.
Thank you so much for the 300+ people who responded to our parent interview survey. This feedback has helped us finalise our 2025 plans - details are included in this pānui.
Please be very careful when you drop students off or collect them at the end of the day. We realise things are much tighter in the Thorndon streets this year with the new cycle lanes, but that just means we have to be incredibly safety conscious with drop offs and pick ups. There is NO parking down any of our drives or in the Hobson St carpark at any stage. The closest streets with any room are Aitken St, Hobson Cres, Tinakori Rd or Thorndon Quay. Please stay right away from the Murphy/Pipitea/Hobson St area, it’s way too dangerous to stop.
The Yr 10 dance is on Thursday 20 March. Students need to complete the online form and pay with either online banking or at the student office before 18 March.
We have our annual Kahui Ako Teacher Only Day on Friday 21 March. There is no school on this day. Staff from all of the schools in our Kahui Ako - Brooklyn, Kelburn Normal, Karori Normal, Karori West, Northland, Otari, Wadestown and Wellington College - meet at Wellington College for a day of workshops and speakers.
We’ve had a spate of forged messages recently to get students out of class early. Please don’t be offended if we ring you to check you have given permission. We just want to keep on top of things!
Best wishes to all of our top teams for Cricket, Floorball, Futsal, Rowing, Tennis & Volleyball who head away for the national Summer Tournament week starting 22 March. This is always a huge logistical exercise and we’re very grateful to all the coaches and parents taking time off work to support our students. Play hard but play fair and enjoy the experience.
I can’t believe we’re more than half way through the term! Where did that go?
