Careers and Transition

Kaye Johnson —

Once again the 'Flowerpot' Pop Up shop was a huge success. It was open from 7 May until 10 May as a lead up to Mother's Day. This week also coincided with the two senior parent teacher interviews.

All Gateway students were involved as part of their course along with 22 successful volunteers from 50 applicants who took on this huge undertaking.   They all had specific roles such as; Project Manager, Administration and Finance, Marketing and Media, Product Manager, Health & Safety, Roster Coordination and retail assistant.  There was also a satellite Pop Up Shop at Thorndon School with two students in charge .  Each had a job description, received a reference at the end and gained 20 credits.  Students developed key life skills of communication, leadership, business, time management, confidence, problem solving and resilience to name a few in a fun space.

Upcoming events:

Wednesday 23 May:  WelTec Petone campus open day.  We have a full bus load attending this opportunity to see the campus and find out about courses.

Friday 22 June :  Year 12 students are being escorted to the Careers Expo being held at the ASB Stadium.   We will make our way there after lunch and the students make their own way home. There is a wide range of exhibitors for the girls to find out about different tertiary organisations and career opportunities.  Click here for more information.
