Koila Tuivoavoa (2012-2015)
We were saddened to learn of the death of Adi (Koila) Tuivoavoa, who left WGC at the end of 2015, having been Head of Te Rōpū a Kiwa, and a Poly Club and Kapa Haka leader in her final year at school. Koila died in Auckland on the 2nd of August, having been diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2016.
On Monday 6 August a number of her peers and her former Dean, attended her funeral in Auckland. This year's Te Rōpū a Kiwa committee arranged a function at school that afternoon and we were so pleased that many former students and staff came back to help us remember a very special student. Speakers talked about Koila's incredible presence and smile, her pride in her Fijian heritage, her constant movement, her caring manner, her performance skills and her obvious leadership traits.
The Koila Tuivoavoa Memorial Award for Pasifika Academic Achievement was donated by our Pasifika Navigator Group in memory of Koila. It is awarded to the top Pasifika student as determined by their Level 3 results and dux rankings. The recipient receives $500 towards tertiary study.
This year's recipient Charlotte Montu, was presented with the award at Prizegiving by Koila's grandmother Waqa Green.
