Cultural Awards
On Friday, 20 October, we gathered together to celebrate our rich cultural life at WGC. The awards ceremony was live streamed and can be viewed here for anyone who wasn’t able to attend.
It was lovely to see how supportive the students were of one another as merit awards, honours awards, NZ National Representatives, and prize winners were announced. Year 13 Emily Grethe, head of the Arts Committee, opened the ceremony with an overview of cultural accomplishments at WGC this year. From Showquest to Big Sing to student work on display at Te Papa it has been a busy and successful year for our students.
As part of the ceremony we inducted past student Leigh Brewer into the WGC Cultural Hall of Fame. Year 13 and Arts Committee member Janelle Woolley gave a lovely speech outlining Leigh’s impressive career.
Congratulations to everyone who received an award and thank you to the staff, friends, and whānau members who support our students in their endeavours. You all make our community a better place.
