WGC Drama Students Shine!

Carrie Bouffard —

WGC drama enthusiasts have been busy lately with our students participating in both the Wellington College senior drama production and a production of Newsies Jr at the Lower Hutt Little Theatre.

The WC senior production, Utopia, was written, directed, and produced by students and Year 13 Elsie Beaglehole says they “did a fantastic job and made it an extremely enjoyable experience for all involved.” Rosa McGann agrees, adding that “it was so awesome to meet new people and get the chance to perform a student-written piece for two large audiences.”

The actors were a mix of WC and WGC students, with Eleanor Johnson, Caroline Walmsley, Hannah Cairns, Lauren Taylor, and Holly Dean rounding out the WGC group. They rehearsed twice a week from June through the show date in September.

Newsies Jr ran from the 28th to the 31st of August with WGC students Amy Hopkinson, Ava Rusbatch, Kate Honey, Larissa Woolley, Sophia Callister, Bella Harris, Holly Martin, Millie Aislabie, and  Isla Easton Smith treading the boards. The show is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the classic film. The songs and dance routines gave all the actors a chance to showcase their skills and give a rousing and enjoyable performance.
