Cross Country Nationals

Carolyn Kirkpatrick —

Wellington Girls' College was the most dominant school in the team events at the recently held NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country Champs, with three golds and two silvers. Our 21 strong team endured the muddy track at the Saxton Field in Nelson to come out with some great results both as a team and individuals.

Senior Girls - Gold in the 3 person team (Ava Sutherland, Kate McHardy, Lucy Jurke) and Gold in the 6 person team (along with Katelyn Sceats, Lillie Beliveau, Molly O'Sullivan)
Junior - Silver 3 person team (Poppy Healy, Maria Revelant, Annabel Tuck), and Silver in the 6 person team (along with Giselle Kenworthy, Sophie Jones, Gracie Ames)
Year 9 - Gold in the 3 person team (Juju Moorhead, Maia Holden, Ella Egan)

In terms of individual results we had the following girls in the top 10:

  • Senior - Ava Sutherland (7th) and Kate McHardy (9th)
  • Junior - Poppy Healy (6th)
  • Year 9 - Juju Moorhead (4th), Maia Holden (9th)

Ava has also been invited to be part of the NZ team to run in Australia in August.

A massive thanks to Kirsty McTamney and Teresa Healy for taking the team to Nelson and to all those parents who went to support them.
