Sports News

Carolyn Kirkpatrick —

After months of sports registrations, trials, selections, coach allocations, manager allocations, rejigging and rejigging again, we finally have a full sports programme up and running with over 700 girls involved in winter sport.

It is a massive effort from many people who gave up their time so a huge thank you to you all for helping us put together:  4 Lacrosse teams, 6 Football teams, 43 Netball teams, 9 Basketball teams, 5 Hockey teams, 24 Badminton teams, 2 Underwater Hockey teams, a Cross Country and an Orienteering team.

Under 16 Cross Country win

The WGC Cross Country team competed in the College Sport Wellington Scottish Cross Country relays at Karori Park on Monday.  Teams of 4 each ran 2 km around the hilly course and we had some impressive results.  Our Under 16 team of Carly Smith, Jessica Hughes, Maia Holbert and Hannah Evett came in first place with over a minute ahead of their closest competition, Wanganui Collegiate.  Jessica also managed the third fastest lap for all Under 16 runners.  Our senior team - Caitlin Douglass, Lucy Hegan and Olivia Pugh were beaten into second place by Wellington East Girls' College by 2 seconds.  Lucy ran the second fastest lap for all the senior girls and our Year 9 team - Olivia Hendry, Jess Cunningham, Eliza Smith and Julia Mautz came in third in their division.   Congratulations to the team for a great start to the cross country season.
