Wellington Girls' College —

On Monday 22 March, the intrepid Year 9 extension students set out from WGC for an entertaining, fun and exhausting adventure race.  Apart from some slightly incorrect route choices and map reading on the navigation leg (which involved climbing a HUGE mountain that was totally not on the map!) all teams completed it very well in the end, with three of the four teams getting all 11 controls. The swimming was outstanding - extremely fast times across the board for every team and that was followed up by an even faster leg across all teams on their wheels (even when some participants abandoned their scooters and RAN!).

It finished off with extremely impressive jumps off the wharf (although what was even more impressive was the repeat jumpers after they had found out exactly how cold it was in there). Overall a great day and congrats to the fastest team overall: The Pink Panthers.

On 30 March - a year to the day that we stopped school and went into lockdown - postponing the Year 10 Extn PE PC race for 9 months!  This year we got to do it on the exact day and the students' enthusiasm, teamwork, excitement and overall love of physical activity made it a wonderful experience.

Team Sascha took the honours with Team Casey and Team Catherine S right on their heels, but there was very little between all the teams.  We dodged the rain and had a wonderful race through all the legs - swim bike run beach run and climb.  An awesome day.

9 Extn PE classes are following on from an extremely successful module on Adventure Racing and are now developing their racquet sports skills. This week is the start of their Badminton tournament and the next week will involve trips outside the gym to the Thorndon Squash and Tennis club to expand their range of skills. Theory wise they have been getting into bones and muscles literally, with dissections that involve a realistic and close up look at what is really 'under the skin'.  So lots to look forward to this half of the term.

10 Extn PE - all 3 classes are working incredibly hard on their gym display extravaganza where they will perform their whole class routine to a selected audience (including the young children who they will be coaching in the second half of the term) on Tuesday 25 May during Period 5. The students have been amazingly creative and hugely motivated in creating the routines so far so they should be fun, interesting and exciting to watch.
