Congratulations to our WGC Athletics Champions for 2021. The Juniors (Year 9) was a tightly fought competition with three athletes coming in with the same points.

Two fantastic results out of WGC's Athletics Day were in the High Jump.  We had records broken in both the Junior and Intermediate divisions.  The junior high jump record of 1.53cm was held by current Silver Fern Gina Crampton which she set in 2005.  Year 9 Tapini Raea beat this by a slim 1cm!  And the intermediate record was 1.58cm set way back in 1984 by C. Lovatt.  Naomi Waite, Year 10, jumped 2cm more and now has the record of 1.60cm.  Congratulations to Tapini and Naomi.

It was another amazing contest between the best sprinters from WGC and WEGC in our annual 4 x 100m relay.  The winners from the previous year host the event, which was rather daunting for the East team performing in front of a 1400 strong WGC team!

WGC was lagging a bit behind at the last change but Bebe Newman put her head down and took off after the East runner.  With 5 metres to go to the finish line Bebe screamed past to take out the relay for another year.   A massive congratulations to the team.
