Numeracy and Literacy Co-Requisites at WGC in 2025

Melanie Eade —

All students need to pass these tests by the time they leave WGC in order to gain NCEA.  You can read all about it here.

All Year 10s will wait until September to try these tests for the first time.  Their Maths and English teachers will be monitoring their progress and will help them prepare.

Y11s, 12s and 13s who need to pass one or more of these tests have the opportunity to sit them in May.

If your student is in 11LS, or 11 Imagined Worlds, they are being supported through a different pathway as well as preparing for the reading and writing tests.

For other students needing to pass reading and/or writing, Stephanie Arnott, an English teacher with a specialist role in Literacy, will be monitoring and supporting their preparation.

Students in Y11 who are yet to pass Numeracy are being supported in 11 Mathematical Language.  There will be some tutorials offered for other Y11s in the lead-up to the testing in May. These students could also choose to access peer tutoring and should be working on their skills in their own time.

Y12s and 13s still requiring Numeracy credits are being supported in 12Ako studies, otherwise, Greg Watson who has a specialist Numeracy role, will be monitoring and supporting their preparation.
