HANNAH BROCKETT

Kia ora everyone, I’m Hannah Brockett and I’m running to be our board representative. I‘m a year 12, who is a diligent, open-minded student, and am keen to work with you to incorporate your ideas to make a change.

I enjoy taking part in our teal community and meeting and working alongside new people. In our years here at WGC our schooling has been affected in so many ways, and now we encounter yet another problem with our buildings. Our education is our number one priority! At the moment people believe that it doesn’t hold enough worth. We deserve to know our rights and to fight for them.

This role holds so much power within the school for our student voice, and I believe in uplifting the student vote and advocating for our rights! Our learning spaces need to improve. As the board rep, I would listen to your concerns and present them to the board, to let them know what their student body is thinking.

I’m keen to help our school grow and make space for improvement. As the board representative, I would advocate for the empowerment of my peers, especially in a predominantly female school. Our voice will be heard.

ORLA SWEENEY

Kia ora, my name is Orla Sweeney and I am running to be your Board representative for 2024/25! In my time at Wellington Girls’, I have been able to be part of a wide range of groups, including both our school choirs, a reporter section leader and several social sports teams. I have also been my class’s student representative for three years, where I have helped create Te Pūriki and the now sadly defunct bathroom lift passes. This year, I am in the property sub-committee, where we obviously have a lot to discuss!

Like many of you, I definitely have problems with some aspects of the school and the way they have been handled. I would love to be able to address these issues, whether it be the lack of performance spaces or the way the ministry has dealt with the building project, both the original plans and newer issues.

I think I would be a good board rep because I am confident and enthusiastic about trying to make our school a better place, where students feel safe attending. I feel I am the right person to represent the student voice as I am empathetic and excited to hear all perspectives of our school, both the good and the bad.

Due to my experience as a student rep, I think many of those skills such as punctuality, commitment, and an excitement to create a safe and welcoming space will translate well into qualities that a board representative should have.

I would love to be your 2024/25 board representative, and I hope you will consider me as one of your options. Thank you.
