WGC Dancers join the Mudra Dance Company

Wellington Girls' College —

Three of our talented students will be performing in the Mudra Dance Company production of Darpana on July 1st and 2nd at the Lower Hutt Little Theatre.

Vaasana Anthony (Yr 10) and Ria Mathew Kulathinal (Yr 9) have been studying classical Indian dance at the Mudra Dance Academy since they were five years old, and Irene Jiss (Yr 10) started soon afterwards. All three dancers have family connections to the Academy and are excited to be a part of Darpana, which will feature a collection of dances choreographed by leader Vivek Kinra over his career.

The girls describe it as, “showing the history of the academy,” and while Ria performed in the company’s big biennial show in 2021 this is Vaasana and Irene’s first time taking part.

Dance is clearly a passion for all three students, as they all eagerly confirm that they will continue studying and performing for the foreseeable future, and perhaps even move into teaching someday. We wish them and the company all the best for the production.
