Physical Education & Health

Herman Fiu, Laura Hutchinson & Gail Ives —

On the first full week of school, the Year 12 Physical Education and Sport Science students competed for the inaugural Kararehe Shield to determine who would be the best Ki o Rahi team.

Monday saw the students slipping and sliding around the field as the rain showed no mercy.  Wednesday and Thursday cleared up, which gave the students a day to really show their athleticism and effort!

The finals had the ultimate show-down of Blue Envy representing 12 Sport Science and Cheetah Girls representing 12 Physical Education. It was a physical and intense final, with Blue Envy coming out on top to win comfortably. The biomechanical analyses of the jump shot paid off for Sport Science students!

Well done to all 12PE/SPS students. It was a great week to kick off the post-COVID-19 return to school.

Year 10 Extn PE
As part of the 'Leveraging It' module linking Biomechanics, anatomy and lever sports, the classes have just completed a really fun and learning trip to the Hutt Park Golf driving range.  Many students managed to wind it up and hit the ball over 100m and hit several targets so was a very successful trip.

The students are presenting their findings about how biomechanical principles relate to sport in class presentations using slide shows, videos, Kahoots and songs - very entertaining learning! Next term has more challenges and excitement with each student having a little buddy from Sacred Heart School coming down once a week in the coaching module.
