Message from the Principal

To say we hit the ground running this year was an understatement as ERO visited in the second full week. I should have been relaxed - I spent my sabbatical in 2012 with ERO doing school visits alongside 3 of our 4 reviewers; I knew we did some things really well; I knew our results were amazing and I knew we were really well prepared.

In the speech that we gave on the Year 9’s first day at the beginning of this year we likened the time one spends at high school to climbing a hill. The Class of 2018 has completed that climb, and we now stand on top of the hill, marvelling at the view.

Koila Tuivoavoa 1998 - 2018

Koila Tuivoavoa (2012-2015)

We were saddened to learn of the death of Adi (Koila) Tuivoavoa, who left WGC at the end of 2015, having been Head of Te Rōpū a Kiwa, and a Poly Club and Kapa Haka leader in her final year at school. Koila died in Auckland on the 2nd of August, having been diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2016.

Every year, the Wellington Girls’ College Arts Committee induct an Old Girl into the Arts and Culture Hall of Fame. This was set up to recognise former WGC students who have gone on to make significant contributions to the arts. Some of our previous inductees include Katherine Mansfield and Jenny Wollerman. This year Anne French joins them.
