To say we hit the ground running this year was an understatement as ERO visited in the second full week. I should have been relaxed - I spent my sabbatical in 2012 with ERO doing school visits alongside 3 of our 4 reviewers; I knew we did some things really well; I knew our results were amazing and I knew we were really well prepared.

In the speech that we gave on the Year 9’s first day at the beginning of this year we likened the time one spends at high school to climbing a hill. The Class of 2018 has completed that climb, and we now stand on top of the hill, marvelling at the view.

Former Home Economics Teacher, Miss Davies, passed away on 20 September 2018 after a short illness, aged 94. The photo is taken from The Reporter.

We were saddened to learn of the death of Adi (Koila) Tuivoavoa, who left WGC at the end of 2015, having been Head of Te Rōpū a Kiwa, and a Poly Club and Kapa Haka leader in her final year at school. Koila died in Auckland on the 2nd of August, having been diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2016.

Every year, the Wellington Girls’ College Arts Committee induct an Old Girl into the Arts and Culture Hall of Fame. This was set up to recognise former WGC students who have gone on to make significant contributions to the arts. Some of our previous inductees include Katherine Mansfield and Jenny Wollerman. This year Anne French joins them.

Maggie recently moved to Auckland to further her football career and was named in the U17 New Zealand Football Team.

Melanie has been recognised by The University of Auckland in its annual list of 40 exceptional graduates under the age of 40.

Mei is currently working as a journalist for 1News at Television New Zealand (TVNZ)

At the beginning of this year Sarah moved to Tauranga to pursue a new career as a full-time climber.

Bianca was recently awarded a New Zealand Institute of Architects Cadimage Student Design Award - Year 1 Highly Commended 2017.
