The new Adams House Head of Boarding has been appointed.

Adams House Manager —

I am very excited to announce that Rhys Archibald has been appointed as the Head of Boarding at Adams House and I know that this news will be well received by the boys and their parents. Rhys cares for and is passionate about the boys.

This is a significant appointment and Rhys has emerged from a very strong field of applicants.

Rhys has been a part of the Christchurch Boys’ High School community since 2010 and is looking forward to joining the nurturing team at Adams House.

Rhys, a former boarder, is the current Head of the Geography Department at CBHS and has been the 1st XV rugby coach. Rhys has prior experience as a House Master at both College House at Palmerston North Boys’ High School and at St Patrick’s College Silverstream. Rhys spent five years as the Year 13 Dean at Palmerston North Boys’ School. Rhys coached the Manawatu NPC Rugby Team in 2016.

Rhys already knows many of the hostel boys and parents through his current roles and believes they will know what to expect from him. “I’m firm but fair, I do care about the boys, and I am approachable. I get alongside the boys, have a bit of a laugh and chat but will always be willing to help them out where I can”.

Rhys believes what makes Adams House different is the ability for the boys to leave school and “go home”. He is passionate about providing them with the “home away from home” environment that Adam’s House is known for.

Rhys considers that his enthusiasm for boys’ education will help him help the boys. He will support the boys’ perseverance and aims to “inspire them to succeed to the best of their ability”. Rhys will bring enthusiasm, empathy, devotion and a strong sense of duty to Adams House. He will “set high standards, clear expectations and lead by example”.

Rhys does have mana with the boys, and he will be a very visible leader at Adams House who will work positively with the staff to ensure that Adams House continues to move forward and maintain its reputation for excellence in facilities, systems and care.

I am looking forward to working closely with Rhys and there will be opportunities for the Adams House Community to meet Rhys this year as he works with Ross and Shirley on a smooth transition for the boys.
