Richard Taylor

Patrick Coady —

Richard's appointment as Principal at College House is prestigious and we wish him well after 25 years’ service to School. Richard has made a significant contribution to Christchurch Boys' High School in teaching, pastoral care, sport and through his 21 years of leadership at Adam House.

Richard has been influential in building the Blue Black difference that is part of our sporting culture with a focus on the top two inches. He has a philosophy that is about relationships and high standards and Richard's care for the boys and staff was exemplified through his leadership when his friend and Adams House staff member Sam Zarifeh died in 2017. Good schools and good men do hard things well and this sports mad, Ashburton boy was a tower of compassion and care.

Soft hearted and tough, intelligent and funny I pity a first year Hall of Residence student who is foolish enough to take Richard on.

Richard's last day will be September 13. We have begun the process of looking for a replacement and we will be thorough, considered and patient in this with the aim of appointing someone permanently for a January 2020 start date.

In the interim we have been fortunate to engage the services of Ross Brown to lead Adams House for the remainder of 2019. Ross is former Headmaster of Napier Boys' High School, Wanganui Collegiate School, and Wanganui High School as well as Deputy Rector of Timaru Boys' High School and Head of Boarding at Palmerston North Boys' High School. Ross will also be of valuable assistance in sourcing a replacement for Richard and will provide a smooth transition until a permanent manager is appointed.
