Bridget Manson —

Last chance to enter children in this!!

The University of Canterbury is delighted to offer the 2021 Kiwi Competitions for Primary schools - Years 5 & 6 children.

The competitions cater for students of all abilities in primary schools and measures the performance of students at the Curriculum and Year levels - prodominately level 3 for year 5 & 6 children in English, Mathematics and Science.

The competitions are written by New Zealand teachers for New Zealand students and are based on the New Zealand curriculum. The tests are administered online and take 50 minutes to complete so they easily fit into the school day. Each test consists of 40 short answer questions.

Certificates will be provided for all participating students, and the top student for each competition will receive a prize.

An Individual Student Report will also be provided for Parents/Caregivers. This report outlines the student’s overall performance as well as their level of completion and accuracy for each section of the competition. You can look below to see an example of the Individual Student Report.

When is the competition being run?

The competitions will run online in the last 3 weeks of Term 2 and the first week of Term 3 at a time suitable to your school. Whaea Bridget will administer these tests).

Your child can choose to participate in one area, two areas or all three areas. Each curriculum area will be done on a different day and because we have a four week time frame to complete the tests in, even if your child is away on the planned day - we will just get them to do it when they are back. More information about the different competitions can be found on the attached brochure below.

If you are interested in your child participating in any of these competitions please see Whaea Bridget (Akeake) for a form or fill in the form your child brings home. Please return these forms to the school office with payment by Monday 10th May 2021 (beginning of Week 2, Term 2).
