Kia ora koutou parents, caregivers, whānau and students,

AJHS —

Having completed our first full 5 day week back at school following cyclone Gabrielle, our thoughts are with all families who have whanau in the Bay of Plenty, and cyclone affected regions who have been impacted with devastating outcomes. If we can be of any support to families, please reach out.

Our Y7-10 students are settling in well to their daily school routine, timetables, classes, and managing their independence. It is these formative years from 11 to 14 years old that we have the rich opportunity to develop those dispositions, habits, values and dreams that will equip them to be confident young citizens. A huge thank you to all parents and caregivers for supporting their students starting AJHS this school year.

This past week we have held our 2023 school production auditions for Mamma Mia. We had an overwhelming response from our students, which bodes very positively for this wonderful student event being showcased in Term Two. Well done to all those students who braved their audition, and parents who brought them along throughout last Saturday.

Last Sunday we set up for our annual Year 7 camp at Shakespear Regional Park. Thank you to all those who came and pitched approx 45 student tents, and set up all our kayaks, wet suits and other outdoor equipment. It was such a joy to work as a team and meet you all.

Tui and Makomako Year 7 students had a fantastic time at camp from Monday until Wednesday, and Kiwi and Ruru Year 7 students went on Wednesday and returned today. I loved visiting both camps to see our students immersed in activity, building relationships, resilience and lifelong memories.

Next Saturday 4th March we hold our first Summer Gala event from 9am - 2pm. Please come along with your family and friends to enjoy the activities, food, student performances, and community.

Please be aware that on Thursday 16 March there is a PPTA union teacher strike for the day. Most of our teachers belong to this union so we will advise you next week on what our school plan is for that day. A separate email will be sent out to notify you.

Important Dates:

  • Saturday 4 March 9am - 2pm: AJHS Summer Gala

  • Thursday 16 March PPTA Teacher Day Strike (plan to be confirmed)

Please take care and enjoy your weekend ahead.
