The ASHS 2024 Head Students started their year by introducing themselves to the staff at the powhiri to welcome new staff members. The very next day they excelled themselves by speaking at the powhiri to welcome all the new Year 11 students. All their speeches came from the heart as they could all clearly remember how they felt, as Year 11s, listening to the Head Students’ speeches on their own first day at ASHS.

It will be a busy year for the team as they have many initiatives to lead such as a blood drive, student leadership training, the School Ball and even the school’s Yearbook. The ASHS Head Students also lead all of the student committees. These committees not only support the three strands of the ASHS’s curriculum (Tutorial, Impact Projects and Specialist Subjects), but also areas like Arts, Culture, Sports and Wellbeing.

Is it any wonder though, that this group has such excellent leadership skills when all but two of the Executive Student team are alumni of Albany Junior High School.
